Do you have an idea for a manuscript but you don't know where to begin? Do you need to talk to someone but don't know who to turn to? Have you written your story down but are afraid to show it to anyone yet? With more than 20 years of experience in the publishing world, Catherine Balkin has worked with and for authors in a variety of capacities. She can provide editorial consultations, editing, line editing and more.  She would customize her fees for individual needs, but here are her basic fees:

Picture Books

Editorial Consultations (discussions before the manuscript is written) - $50 per session
Editing (reading the written manuscript, offering comments and suggestions, and pointing out discrepancies) - $100 
Line Editing - (spelling, punctuation and other grammatical corrections; occasionally changing or moving sentences around for better flow) = $10 a page 

Novels and Non-Fiction books for kindergartnerss to young adults

Editorial Consultations (discussions before the manuscript is written) - $75 per session
Editing (reading the written manuscript, offering comments and suggestions, and pointing out discrepancies) - $10 a page
Line Editing - (spelling, punctuation and other grammatical corrections; occasionally changing or moving sentences around for better flow) = $20 a page 

GHOST WRITING SERVICES

If you can provide the idea, Catherine can write the book for you. She would charge $100 to $300, depending on the length of a picture book. The charge for a novel or full length nonfiction manuscript would be $1,000 to $3,000, depending on the length.

ILLUSTRATING SERVICES

Balkin Buddies represents a number of award-winning children's book illustrators. One of them would be happy to illustrate your manuscript whether Catherine edits it or not, but the illustrator can also collaborate with Catherine on working on your picture book, providing illustrations in an appropriate medium (water colors, oils, etc.).
