A tribute to Eloise Greenfield on the Brown Bookshelf’s flagship initiative, 28 Days Later

The Brown Bookshelf was started by a group of authors and illustrators who promote awareness of the many African American voices writing for children, and their flagship initiative, 28 Days Later, is their month-long showcase of the best in children's literature written by African Americans.

On February 26, 2017, Olugbemisola Rhuday-Perkovich, a member of the Brown Bookshelf and co-author of the NAACP Image Award-nominated TWO NAOMIS, (Balzer and Bray/HarperCollins), wrote a beautiful and loving tribute to the now legendary Eloise Greenfield, who, through writing such books as HONEY, I LOVE AND OTHER LOVE POEMS (HarperCollins)and CHILDTIMES: A THREE GENERATION MEMOIR (HarperCollins), touched, nurtured and inspired this once-upon-a-time little girl, who is now a writer herself. We hope you enjoy Ms. Rhuday-Perkovich's very touching tribute to Ms. Greenfield as much as we did.

And if you would like to have your own students be inspired by this gifted poet, Eloise Greenfield delights in meeting children and is available for school visits. Details can be found on Balkin Buddies or just contact us and we'll be happy to help.
