We take great pleasure in reporting that it was announced this morning that Eloise Greenfield is the winner of the Coretta Scott King–Virginia Hamilton Award for Lifetime Achievement.

This award, which pays tribute to the late author Virginia Hamilton, is presented to an African American author, illustrator or author/illustrator who has, with a body of published books for children and/or young adults, made a significant and lasting literary contribution. The announcement took place earlier today at the annual American Library Association convention held in Denver, Colorado.

Eloise Greenfield was born in Parmele, North Carolina, and early in life loved words and reading. In her early twenties, she became interested in writing, and in 1972 published her first book. She went on to write and publish more than 40 books. From HONEY I LOVE AND OTHER LOVE POEMS (HarperCollins), which received the George G. Stone Center for Children's Books’ 1990 Recognition of Merit Award and was a Reading Rainbow Selection, to THE GREAT MIGRATION: JOURNEY TO THE NORTH (HarperCollins), which was a 2012 Coretta Scott King Author Honor and an ALA Notable Children's Book, this multiple award-winning author has captivated audiences throughout the years.

Please join us in congratulating Ms. Greenfield on this much-deserved award. She will be accepting it at the Coretta Scott King Book Awards Breakfast during the 2018 ALA Annual Convention in New Orleans, and we hope to see you there!

As always, organizations are welcome to contact Balkin Buddies to book Ms. Greenfield for speaking engagements.
