Earlier this month, Dean Pitchford’s NICKEL BAY NICK (Penguin) was included in Georgia’s largest school district’s reading completion called “Readers Rally,” which is for grades 4-12 with 3 different competition levels -- Elementary, Middle and High School. Students in each level read 15 books, and each school in the district had an opportunity to send a team of 10 students to the competition, which was set up like an academic quiz bowl, with the teams playing other school teams. This year, 57 elementary teams competed. There were opening ceremonies before the competition started and videos from the authors were played.
