Jan Spivey Gilchrist, a woman that soars, and a final look at an emotional moment during the 2016 Wo

Here's a final look at an emotional moment during last year's The Women That Soar Awards, which includes a few moments of Jan Spivey Gilchrist accepting her 2016 award just hours after having had a stroke. Jan made a full recovery just in time, as you will see, to accept her award before a tear-filled audience.

The illustrator of a number of award-winning books, including NATHANIEL TALKING (Writers & Readers), for which she won the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award and NIGHT ON NEIGHBORHOOD STREET (Scholastic), for which she won a Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor, Jan's new books, Gwendolyn Brooks' WE ARE SHINING (HarperCollins) and Leslie Tyron's THE THUMBTACK DANCER (Alazar Press) will be coming out in May and August 2017, respectively.

Please join us in recognizing Jan for her enduring strength, talent and ability to soar in even the most difficult of circumstances.
