We are pleased to report that Frane Lessac’s WE ARE GRATEFUL: OTSALIHELIGA, by Traci Sorell (Charlesbridge) has been named a 2019 Orbis Pictus Honor Book. A National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) award established in 1989, the Orbis Pictus Award for Outstanding Nonfiction for Children promotes and recognizes outstanding nonfiction writing for children. This award is named for ORBIS SENSUALIUM PICTUS (Visible World in Pictures), a textbook for children written in 1658 by Czech educator John Amos Comenius.

Among the 2019 Orbis Pictus Recommended Books are: GAME CHANGERS: THE STORY OF VENUS AND SERENA WILLIAMS (Simon & Schuster/Paula Wiseman Books), by Lesa Cline-Ransome and illustrated by James Ransome, and SOMETHING ROTTEN: A FRESH LOOK AT ROADKILL (Bloomsbury Children’s Books), by Heather Montgomery, illustrated by Kevin O’Malley. Balkin Buddies has, with a couple of exceptions, represented all of these authors and illustrators. Please join us in congratulating all of them!
