Honoring the 50th Anniversary of the Coretta Scott King Award, Eloise Greenfield, Jason Reynolds &am

We're pleased to announce that this Tuesday, April 30, 2019, authors Eloise Greenfield and Jason Reynolds and librarian Deborah D. Taylor will be speaking at the Takoma Park Library (101 Philadelphia Ave, Takoma Park, MD 20912). This program honoring the 50th Anniversary of the Coretta Scott King Awards will start at 7:30 pm and all are welcome.

Eloise Greenfield, who not only won the 1978 Coretta Scott King Award for AFRICA DREAM (HarperCollins) as well as 6 subsequent Honor Books, including THE GREAT MIGRATION (HarperCollins) in 2012, was also the recipient of the 2018 Coretta Scott King-Virginia Hamilton Lifetime Achievement Award. Jason Reynolds won the 2015 CSK John Steptoe Award for New Talent for WHEN I WAS THE GREATEST (Atheneum) and 3 subsequent Honor Books, one of which was LONG WAY DOWN (Atheneum), which was also a Newbery Honor Book and a Printz Honor Book. And Deborah D. Taylor was the 2015 recipient of the Coretta Scott King-Virginia Hamilton Lifetime Achievement Award.

Organized by Politics and Prose Bookstore, this event coincides and is in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of Children's Book Week (April 29 to May 5, 2019). To celebrate, the Children's Book Council and Every Child a Reader have announced a year-long campaign which will include a new logo and theme, an abundant amount of new online materials and activities and much, much more. We hope you enjoy them all, especially the April 30th event that Eloise Greenfield, Jason Reynolds and Deborah D. Taylor are preparing for you at the Takoma Park Library!
